Neva's Legend Obolensky (Lenya) thats me! - would like to announce that he has today been neutered - I'm a little confused right now - and feel a little lighter in weight for some reason - but Mum says that it is for the best - and that I will enjoy the life I deserve at Chantaris as a very pampered puss. It apparently means that Chantaris have some changes in plans - but that really doesn't mean much to me - and really I'm not that fussed, providing I get sufficient quantities of rabbit and chicks, my favourite treats - and lots of cuddles.

Scotland has even begun to grow on me - the language I am getting used to - and I hope it snows - as I really want to feel what that is like 'underpaw'.

So keep following our Blog - and my Mum will update you with all that is new - and even all that is old (that's her!!) -

Well, its been some time since we posted, much has happened in our family over the past weeks. We travelled to the EW Regional Show in Bracknell in August, and Poppy achieved Double Grand Champion - we were so proud of her. It was a lovely show, and super to see Tavolga Sibaris again and also meet the very handsome Lyndongraey Riga.

Our weekend was lovely - and we collected TICA RW SGC Musrafy Caledonia Mist's Awards for the previous Show Season, and these are now proudly displayed here at home.

Last weekend we travelled to Solihull to the Bengal Cat Club of Great Britain Show, and again had the pleasure of seeing Tavolga Sibaris - who had Supremed at Swanley Show. Also to meet Musrafy Yanara and we had the pleasure of 'running' her on the Saturday - which was a great experience.

Poppy had a lovely weekend, she loves the hotels, and behaved very well in the Show Ring - even though she was chatting most of the time to the Judges. She came home as TICA Quadruple Grand Champion - and we are so so proud of her. We never expected it, and can only thank her Judges very much for their awards, and also for the very positive comments, which we have received on our White Siberian breeding program. It augers well for the future.

Thank you to all of our friends for their best wishes and congratulations - its lovely to have the support of you all.

Showing Solid Siberians is tough, and the Solid White is difficult for sure - but we love them - and with our plans - we hope that we can bring a good solid foundation into these beautiful cats - Plans, of course are just that, plans - but we can only hope that they will come to fruition.

Our first Chantaris Title!

Having had a break from showing for a few months, we found ourselves wanting to support the Northern TICA Show at Altrincham, but with little to show. So we decided to take 'our Poppy'.

We had a lovely show, and it was wonderful to meet Tavolga Sibaris of Snowgum - who had just arrived from Moscow, and who did fantastically well, finalling in 9 out of 10 Rings, including 2 Best Cats. Our congratulations again to Meadow (which is her new name) and to Melanie at Snowgum Siberians - Meadow is beautiful, and will go from strength to strength. It was a pleasure to share the Show and to be beaten by this beautiful Siberian.

Poppy had a great time, both in the hotel and at the Show, and finalled in 3 out of the 10 Rings - which we really hadn't expected at all. She even beat the male Siberian on the Sunday in 3 of the 5 Rings for 2nd Best of Breed! Given that he was a Brown Spotted Tabby, it was nice to see the Judges felt that a Solid White was good enough! The comments we received from the Judges were very positive indeed, and it gives us great hope for the future of our Solid White Breeding Program.

Thanks to everyone at the Show for making it a super weekend, and especially to Melanie and David, lovely to see you both again, and meeting Ethan was a thrill - he's a super boy - who'll break many hearts :)

The weekend was tinged with sadness, and we would like to pay tribute to RW SGCA Flutterby Dashing Hussar (Louis), owned by Steve and Janet - who was taken ill early on Sunday morning, and who unfortunately lost his fight for life later that afternoon. No words can express our feelings - he was a most wonderful boy - and at 2 years old - so very young. Our thoughts are with you and your family at this heartbreaking time.

Well, after months of waiting - we are happy to announce that our new boy - NEVA'S LEGEND OBOLENSKY - has arrived in the UK. Our thanks to Valeria for agreeing to let him come to Scotland - we are delighted!

We will update photos once he has settled.

Obolensky will bring a further outcross to our lines - and we hope that he will be happy here in Scotland.

Been quiet - but lots happening!

Well, I've been very lax at posting, and have been busy - what with David deciding to try his hand at being Alan Titchmarsh and doing some splendid gardening - we now have an abundance of vegetables and herbs growing here - and just trying to catch up with things needing to be done.

May 2nd saw Kirov's 4th Birthday - which he celebrated in style, having a lazy day (as usual) coupled with mad half hours every so often.

May 25th saw Darya's 2nd Birthday - and she's developed so nicely since having her babies - maturing very well, and she's very special to us.

We have no kittens at present, but we do have plans -

I'll post up some photos later -

Chantaris Poppy Pomfrey - 6 months old!

Well, the Hogwarts are now 6 months old - and I thought I'd post a photo of 'our Poppy' - gosh it was difficult to get her still for long enough! She was desperately trying to pounce on the toys - but I managed to snap her - and so here she is - She's so sweet, with a wonderful nature - although she can be naughty - but we really are very happy with her. She's great fun, and her Mum seems to enjoy her company too!

Well today is a very special day - it is the Birthday of our wonderful boy - ALTAI!! 3 years old today. Still just a kitten.

Well - after one week - we have finallly managed to compose ourselves and we can't tell you how proud we are to announce that Cali has achieved the ultimate goal -

TICA SUPREME GRAND CHAMPION

We are absolutely thrilled - and to be honest - it was all very emotional at the NaturallyTICA Show in Elsecar last weekend.The standard of cats was excellent and once again Cali found herself up against 'the big boys' with Fahlberg Blue Diamond there in his glory - the most fabulous persian and a true 'showman'. On Saturday there were 4 Siberian adults - all amazingly in the Traditional Silver/Smoke Division. Cali took Best of Breed in all Rings. On Sunday there were 2 Siberian adults - although unfortunately the other entry was 'pulled' as he was very upset. I hope that he has recovered now - as it was sad to see him clearly unhappy. I was busy 'running' a kitten for Maria - and for one Final - David had taken Cali to the Ring - I was suddenly told by Fiona that Cali was going to get Best Cat - as the 2nd place had been announced and she was the only cat left! I just rushed to the end Ring and was able to see her being presented - and burst into tears. Thank you to Clint Knapp - judging here in the UK for the very first time - and as I told him afterwards - he is welcome back anytime!! To everyone there, in that Ring - to Maria, Diane, Delsa and Phil. Erwin and Katherina, the 3 Maine Coon owners - thank you for your congratulations! They meant a whole lot. To Stef and Claire - thank you - and Claire - sorry to have gotten you a 'tad' wet with tears! The Final although a Speciality Ring - with 24 cats present - had 9 Finalists - including 3 Maine Coon's. There was one Maine Coon girl and Cali - and the rest of the cats were all male. So - to have achieved Best Cat over those boys - is absolutely wonderful - and I just keep thinking about that day - it was surreal - and something which you don't necessarily think will happen.

Cali is now the first Supreme Grand Champion Female Siberian in Western Europe (EW) Region. The first Supreme Grand Champion Female Siberian - Laska Onix Gloria of Musrafy - earned her Title when we were part of Europe North - but there are only two females with this Title in the UK - and its wonderful to have achieved this - after Laska who is Altai's Mum! We are so very proud of our girl - and our heartfelt thanks to Maria Bunina - her breeder - for allowing us the priviledge of owning Cali and for the happiness she brings us each day - She's an uncomplicated cat who is 'laid back' and placid - and a joy to own.

Although we are in Scotland and as such - have Isolated Status with TICA - Cali has Supremed with more points than she requires to Supreme in Non-Isolated Status - i.e., she could live anywhere - and would still be Supreme. I think that is important to point out - as I know that many are unhappy with the split of the UK - as I myself are. Unfortunately - we must abide by the Rules of TICA - but we are thrilled her points totals for the 4 Shows she has been at - enable her to have the points required anywhere in the world.

At 16 months old - we couldn't have asked for more - and in truth - she has given us more than we'd ever thought possible.

Congratulations Cali - you are a star!

White Glory

Photo of Poppy - first thing on Sunday morning - watching exhibitors arrive!

Well, belatedly we wanted to update you with our exploits with the White babies at the Newbury Show. YES - we decided to 'bite the bullet' and enter them - and so Poppy, Armando and Salazar duly travelled with Cali to Newbury. They were amazingly good in the car on the journey - but having plenty of room to stretch out and enjoy the passing scenery seemed to help. They loved the hotel, and were totally cool, calm and collected after the journey.

So to the show - Saturday morning - arrived early for Vetting In. No problem - and thank you to Karen the Vet for her lovely handling of the kittens and Cali.

We found there was another White Siberian kitten entered, a Brown Classic tabby and also a Blue Mackerel Tabby - such a pretty colour! So - we hoped that the showing experience would be good and that they wouldn't be too stressed or upset. Well - Salazar was an absolute idiot - meowing and crying - and wanting to get down on the floor in the Judges Ring - just to get off and play. Armando was a little more relaxed and amendable - and Poppy was just Poppy - doing what the Judge wanted and looking at the Judge and trying to 'curry' favour! Then when back into the 'holding' pen - she would sit and look and stare at the Judge and lift one paw as if to say 'pick me'.

We had a really nice weekend, and the kittens results are as follows -

Poppy - 2 x Best of Breed and 1 All Breed Final
Armando - 4 x Best of Breed and 2 Speciality Finals

Salazar - Dunce's Cap - but a prize for being the loudest Siberian at the Show!!

Right now - we've no plans to show them - but as with everything - plans can change.

Cali - never ceases to amaze us.

Well, we took the long trip to Newbury last weekend to the Cattica show. It was lovely to be there once again - as I missed it last year, even though David managed to go with Altai. Great to see old friends, and make some new ones along the way. We had a lovely 3 night stay in the Hilton - and thank the Club very much for negotiating (as usual) a wonderful rate!

Cali - did us proud - finalling in 9 out of the 12 Rings. Amazing - given the quality of the cats being shown right now. Some gorgeous persians and especially Fahlberg Blue Diamond of Riascatz (Marie Hill) - the most wonderful cat! Some stunning Maine Coon, Exotics and Bengals of course. Not forgetting Gracie - who we'd not seen in a while - a most gorgeous Turkish Van. Way to go Gracie - Supreme Grand!!

Our thanks to Cali's judges, for their care in handling, and for allowing her into their Finals.

Our Poppy!

Well, we've been quiet, but have been very busy - and have been tied up with different things both cat and non-cat related. So we thought we would just post and say 'Hi' to everyone and announce that Poppy - Chantaris Poppy Pomfrey - will stay with us here at Chantaris. As our first born Siberian kitten - she is very special - and so it is right that she stays with us. She's a real character - and has the sweetest nature.

Well, I know we all have our own kinds of Christmas tree, and we all decorate them differently, and have different 'takes' on how best to dress them - but the Hogwarts decided that they'd add a little somethiing to our tree this year - the results are.............well - you'll see for yourself.

Just to add - there was no power available when these photos were being taken - and absolutely NO Christmas trees were harmed in the taking of these photos!! Well - ok - it was rather wrecked - but then again - isn't that what having kittens is all about - the fun and the mayhem which ensues!!!

Well, the weather was kind and we made the trip to Coventry for the Spoticat Show at the weekend. It was lovely to catch up with old friends, have some fun and enjoy the show. There were some fabulous cats, kittens, alters and household pets. Lovely to see some judges we've not seen for a while, and as always, very interesting to hear their comments on the cats - of all breeds.

Adult cat count was high - and we took Cali along as she is such a sweetie and nothing phases her. We didn't expect much, given the count - and are absolutely delighted to say that Cali is now -

QUADRUPLE GRAND CHAMPION MUSRAFY CALEDONIA MIST OF CHANTARIS.

Well, we have some updated photos of the Hogwarts - never easy to capture - but managed to get some photos the other day. They are growing really well, and are complete little devils. They are having lots and lots of fun, and enjoyed watching the snowflakes as they fell! They are now 9 weeks old - so 'into' everything - and loving every minute of it. They sleep on our bed - and are remarkably content - however Horace likes to waken you in the morning - combing your hair. I think he has ambitions of being a 'Teasy Weasy' hairdresser!

We plan to try and get some 'festive' photos of them - in the next couple of weeks - but in the meantime - here they are .........................

Some updates on the Hogwarts!

Well, the kittens are growing and expanding their repertoire of what mischief they can get up to. Its funny to watch their antics and to wonder what they'll do next. They are all very much in favour of sleeping on our bed, and its interesting to suddenly wake up with a furry face purring in your own face. We are having such fun!

We've managed to snap - and I mean literally snap a few shots - as staying still for any length of time is something they aren't keen on - other than when they are asleep.

So - here you are - our photo which shows Horace giving us a right 'ticking off'!!

A 'Double Grand' time at Elsecar!

Well, for the first time - I ventured to a TICA show on my own. Travelling with Cali - to Elsecar, for the Two Day - NaturallyTICA show. It was lovely to be back, not having shown since early April this year.

For Cali, it was strange - as she had no cat company - but we had a nice time in the hotel, and she enjoyed her trip.

We'd like to thank the Show Team, Delsa, Michael and Katherine, plus numerous other helpers. Also, thanks to fellow exhibitors for 'taking the preverbial' and insisting that I was a NEW exhibitor! To the Judges - our thanks, it was nice to see Connie Webb back and also the Hammonds - as its some considerable time since they visited the UK. Robin Sessler and Lisa Dickie are always very informative, and Eduardo Borras is a Judge who likes to have fun.

Cali enjoyed the show, and came home a Double Grand Champion - so we'd like to thank everyone - our Black Silver Spotted girl is now -

Kitten update!

Well, no new photos over the weekend, as I was away - and the kittens were in the safe hands of their 'Daddy' David! By the time I came back, they had been introduced to raw beef (they'd already been enjoying rabbit), and were tearing all over the bed! So - now we have 5 hooligans clambering all over - and you are suddenly aware of a small furry face in your face! Its lovely actually - and they are SO funny.

Hopefully we'll have updated photos this coming weekend. I'm not a fan of photography - so leave it to David.

So here we are - 5 weeks old - and our Mum says that we are 'little monsters'. NEVER!!!

Difficult for us to stay still for long enough to have our photos done - we like to be very naughty - and 'mess around'!!

Poppy was having a 'bad hair day', and we laughed at her............she does that - she messes round SO much - and is very naughty getting into things she ought not to - we think she probably needs some kind of special brush to help that hair! We're all enjoying our solid food, Royal Canin wet and dry and our raw food too! Poppy much prefers her RC Veterinary Weaning - thats her favourite, Armando and Salazar - they don't mind - they prefer wet and raw - Aurora - she likes wet and raw too - and Horace - he's naughty - he prefers raw!

We like the litter trays - they are great fun - OK - we know what they are for - but they are fun to play and dig in too!

So - here we are - 5 weeks................

Our Litter are Named - Chantaris are at Hogwarts!

Well, we didn't manage to get photos over the weekend, but hopefully will do over this coming weekend.

We have now named the litter - and this litter is our Hogwarts 2010 Litter.

We decided on this as the author of Harry Potter is of course J K Rowley and as she is of course Scottish (Edinburgh) - we are not a 'stone's throw' away - and so as our kittens are Scottish - we thought it apt that they become Harry Potter kittens - and so they are named after Hogwarts staff members - and our first Chantaris litter are - we feel - quite 'Magical'.

We've now added their names to their photos.

Well, the kittens were 3 weeks old on Friday 22 October - and so we have new photos of them. Its difficult to get them to stay still! They are all doing really well - they did have a Vet Health check last week - and the Vet is very happy with all of them and with Darya - who had of course gained a lot of weight prior to the birth - but has kept her condition really well, and is heavier now than she was and is looking pretty good considering she is caring for these 5 hooligans! Right now - weights are between 424 and 550 grams - the smallest two being the girls, but they are still a good size/weight - and we are more than happy with their development.

We are still deciding on names - not easy - but hopefully although they have their little 'nicknames' they will have their 'proper' names very, very soon!

Well, here they are - 2 weeks old - and their Blog debut - Birth weights were all very similar, 90-98 gr. Now - at 2 weeks old, we have all kittens between 300 and 360 grams. So - we are very happy with their progress, and very proud of Mum, Darya - who has been absolutely fabulous with her babies -

Here they are - will hope to update the photos on a weekly basis - providing we can keep them still for long enough!

Birth Announcement!!

We would like to announce the birth of our first Chantaris Siberian kittens.5 Kittens, born on Friday October 1 2010. Proud parents - TICA Champion DK Meldgaards Darya Darinja and BG Ataman Sibirela.

We have been getting to know our new arrivals, and watching their progress. We are happy to report that they are all growing well, and the first eyes opened on Friday October 8 2010 - and they all now have their eyes open. Now we begin to see the character!!

We have 4 Solid White kittens and 1 Brown Tabby kitten. They are all under observation. ALL White Kittens will be Hearing Tested, and ALL Chantaris White kittens sold for breeding will have a BAER Hearing Certificate - from the Royal Dick Veterinary Unit.

We will upload photos as soon as possible.

Well, we are busy right now - its Booster vaccination time - so Ataman was first yesterday - and he behaved like a real trouper. No fuss - just lolling on the Vets table, being a complete idiot - so laid back - a great patient.

Today - it was Kirov and Altai - well - Kirov just thinks the Vet is for fun - and he loves it. Throws himself all over the table, at the Vet wanting cuddles and just being a soppy lump. Perfect patient. Altai - well he did his routine of being a 'hedgehog' trying to curl up in a ball - however, he managed to be coaxed into a more relaxed position - and again - a good patient.

So - they have had their full health checks and their boosters - and so they can relax!

Next one - Darya - but ssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh - don't tell her!!

Chantaris Cats - loss.

In the early hours of this morning, our little rescued girl - Heidi (14 yrs) - slept peacefully away. She is now at 'Rainbow Bridge. She had been diagnosed with a tumour - and her kidneys failed. She is 'at peace' - and will be buried later today in the peaceful corner of our garden, beside Louis our Bengal who died so tragically last year age 7 with Lymphoma, and our Viki - who died from a PE - 3 years ago today.

They are now reunited - and will play again - watching over us.

She came to us and weedled her way into our elder sons heart - and today she's broken it. Her companion from the Shelter - Elja - is meowing round the house today - in search of her lifelong friend. Its so sad.

Well, its Birthday Boy Kirov - 3 today. He's having a relaxing day - having spent the earlier part of the day in the cat run lying in the sun - but now he needs a sleep - and is curled up on the Catrix.

Its lovely to look back at photos and see how he has developed - and matured - and to be honest - he still seems just like a baby. He's brought us so much happiness and fun - and we wish him a Very Happy Birthday.

His crazy bike photo is back on show again - as its one of the funniest things he's ever done.

End of the Show Season

Well - thats it - the 2009/2010 TICA Show season is over for us here in UK - the shows are all in the past. The new 2010/2011 TICA Show year starts on the 1st of May - with the first show in the UK - on 15/16 May - at Milton Keynes - the Spoticat - 'Bare Bones Show'.

We hope everyone had a wonderful show year - and will carry on forwards and have successes again in the new year.

Our own boy - TICA QUADRUPLE GRAND CHAMPION AND SUPREME GRAND CHAMPION ALTER - MUSRAFY ALTAI - has now retired. We unfortunately missed the last show of the season - due to my being ill. We will confirm later Altai's achievements - which have been many over the past months, since he came back out into the Show Ring on August 1st 2009. He's been a star, and 'Daddy's Boy' has done us very proud.

One piece of news - which was extremely exciting - was on our new girl - Darya - who went to her 2nd Show at Brigg April 10/11. On the Saturday - she was the only Siberian Adult present - but did manage to gain one Final with Adriana Kajon - where she was placed 8th Best Cat from 45 Cats entered. It was amazing, as she is very young, and immature - and has a lot of growing/maturing to do. Adriana said that she was a very good example of the Breed and that she had a 'phenomenal' disposition. Her boning and conformation were excellent. When I spoke with her - she was very excited to have seen her - being odd-eyed - and of course her eyes are of good colour. She feels that she will be an asset to this colourway in the Siberian - and predicts that she will do well. Our girl is therefore now -

TICA CHAMPION MELDGAARDS DARYA DARINJA - We are very proud of her - She is having a break from showing for now - and is currently trying to run riot round the house - in cahoots with Cali - They've become very good friends - and its lovely to see them all having fun.

At Brigg - Cali had her very first Show - and we were thrilled that she had the following results -

3 x 3rd BOB

She Finalled in 2 Rings - and was

4th Best Kitten from 23 in Vickie Shields Ring
7th Best Kitten from 23 in Francine Hicks Ring

So - given that she was the youngest - and needs to develop a fair bit - it was very pleasing to actually come home with a couple of 'buttons' for her Rosette.

So - a quick introduction to our 'boy'................ Photos taken at 9 months of age - before his arrival.

He's a little shy - having only been with us for a few days - but has the most fantastic temperament. He's just a proper lovebug - with the nicest nature, and personality. We'll update photos soon - but right now - just want him to 'chill out' and enjoy his new surroundings.

He will be the future of Chantaris - and we are so delighted to have been able to be allowed the opportunity to have him here.

This time I want to introduce to you - our import girl - photos taken at 8 months - she is now 10 months old - and if and when I can get her to sit still for long enough - I'll upload some more photos!

Meldgaards Darya Darinja - from Denmark. Our thanks to Laila and Mads for this stunning girl. It was amazing to meet you - and to finally have Darya with us. What seemed like an eternity - has passed - and she is here in Scotland!

Darya is a Solid White Siberian - with Odd Eyes - a stunning combination - and one which has and will continue to have a great number of admirers.

She brings to the UK a new gene pool - and we hope that we will have babies from her at some point this year.

She has settled very well indeed - and her trip from Denmark whilst long, and tiring hasn't left any lingering effects. She is very 'laid back', beautiful temperament, and we are enjoying watching her explore.

She and Cali are hoping to 'beat up' the Alter Boys - and are already trying to 'Rule the Roost'. I am so pleased to welcome Darya here - and hope that you will love her too.

Our thanks to Maria for allowing us to have Cali - who is the sweetest little girl. She is enjoying her time with Uncle Altai - and has settled really well.

Cali joins us - as we had originally planned to have two girls from Europe - but due to some issues - which were mine - with one of the girls - as she'd not developed as I hoped - I withdrew from that Contract. I must say that I feel my decision was right - and we now have this little girl who is beautiful and will be an asset to us here at Chantaris. The girl in question - has now gone on to a breeding home in France - and I wish her new owners the very best of luck with her and their boy who is the same age - and I'm sure they'll produce some nice babies for them.

We hope you love her as much as we do.

Well - the beautiful Spring weather is still with us - and hopefully we will find that Spring has finally 'sprung'.

Here everything is a zany as ever - with the sunshine comes more crazy Siberian behaviour. Still - it makes us laugh - and given the state of the television these days - it makes for a welcome addition to the entertainment in the evenings.

So - very soon the Chantaris household will be changing - and we are looking forward to it with great anticipation. Our plans will hopefully all have reached fruition - and our next stage will start to evolve.

With Spring comes change -

Been so lazy in not posting!

Well, I've been lazy - not posting! We've been to SO many shows - and had so many great results - that I've never really put them into the Blog - as I'm just really happy showing Altai - and having such a great time. Win or lose - the weekend always brings something. We've had the delight of 'running' some cats belonging to friends - including Musrafy Anfissa - who is a 'doll'! Also we've had the lovely experience of 'running' two Ocicats - Salatana Digby an alter and Salatana Edward who was still a kitten - but has now joined the league of the 'big boys'!! Thanks to Lindsey for allowing me the huge pleasure of handling these boys - they are absolutely gorgeous - but no matter how hard I tried - I just didn't ever seem to manage to sneak Edward into my pocket!

We've had a great time over the past show season - with old and new friends - and each show is special - in that we are able to spend time with these people and have fun. We've had some lovely meals in the evening - and you lot who 'hogged' the puddings last time - YOU know who you are!! It was a lovely evening!!

To everyone who is still campaigning until end April - we wish you all the very best of luck - we're always there supporting our friends!

To Alexandrite Akiro - well done 'wee man' on achieving Champion Alter at Leigh Show - your Mum and Dad were very proud of you.

To Corcats Miss American Pie - the cutest little Ragdoll kitten you can imagine - she's absolutely gorgeous - and won many a heart at Leigh. She is set to make her stamp on the show circuit and to Phil and Teresa - her breeder/owners - well done - she's beautiful - and you know that we love you all!

There have been so many beautiful cats shown this year. The Alter section has been super tough - and its a testament to their owners and breeders that these beautiful cats - whilst not being bred from - are still able to grace the show ring - and show how wonderful they are. Stars have been Zendique Sleepless Knights - a stunning Exotic Shorthair, Mystere Making a Splash - a female Persian - who is beautful. Jayazuri Diamond Starlight - beautiful Solo the Bengal - who I personally have a great fondness for - as he reminds me very much of our late Louis. To Salatana Digby - my friend and 'cuddle buddy'. Mabalakat Wolfman Jack - the most amazing Maine Coon - who I've tried to kidnap for about a year and a half - and never managed. Carolmaine General Lee, Elmcoon Dark Night - both Maine Coons - one Red and White the other Black. To Fiordilismo Centerpercento and Lebreton Eclipse - a Red Point Siamese and Foreign Black - and to Corcats Nice One Cyril - the Ragdoll - with 'cattitude', and to Pippastro Majik Flute - Oriental Longhair. Also to Betty - Namrib Beautilicious - she shows us a Birman as she should be - We've had a 'ball' and we've loved every minute - and had wonderful times. Each one of you - and also those who I've not mentioned - you've shown the judges that Alters are true stars - and the quality has shone through throughout this entire show season.

We come to the last 3 shows - and know that soon the year is over. For some - they will come back out - and campaign again next year - for us - Altai will retire - one year for him - as with Kirov - they've given their best - and they've loved and hated parts of it - but above all - they've been our true stars - and for sure - they've made a mark on the Siberian world - For that we have to be grateful - and to have the joy of owning them and being able to see them each and every day - is the BEST feeling -

So - for those who show - we'll see you at the last 3 - and for those who don't - get out there and try it - even if its a Household Pet - its amazing the fun you'll have - as in TICA - its FUN, FELINES AND FABULOUS FELINES!!!

Apologies

Well, I've been very lazy in posting - so wanted to apologise - and promise I'll post something up over the next couple of days.

Its been a bit crazy as Kirov has had some issues with cystitis and his bladder - and so its been very stressful - but our Vets have been wonderful - and have treated him with their usual expertise. Poor boy has had a lot to deal with - being hospitalised and then catheterised and anaesthetised and on constant medication. He's been a very brave boy - and accepted everything with his usual placid nature.

We hope that we have him on an 'even keel' for now - but are monitoring him closely of course - Vets are happy with him - Kirov isn't happy with the Urinary Diet - but has decided that the 'Dry' version is edible in small portions.

For anyone who has cats and especially neutered male cats - please, please take care and be vigilant - Cystitis is horrible and causes a lot of pain. It can be tricky to spot - if your cat goes outside - then it can be very hard to see. Just be aware - and if you see any sign of your neuter not going to the littertray properly - then have him checked by the Vet. Cystitis - if left untreated - can cause huge problems - and if the bladder fills full - can lead to kidney problems - and can be fatal.

Its something that we generally don't think about - and I've been paranoid over the past few weeks.

Interview with the Vampire

Just had to post this photo of Kirov - he's still looking for work after his retiral - and whilst its winter and practice sessions have been a little curtailed at Knockhill - he thought he might try an audtion for a film career. So - the title of the film was 'Interview with the Vampire' and here is his attempt to secure the leading role.

As an aside - he had been lined up to ride for KawaCATi - however, he's been approached - after several very fast practice sessions by DuCATi - so he's still in negotiations with them both - to find the most suitable team -

I reckon Brad Pitt will be 'miffed' at Kirov for his audtion photo - I mean - he does look so much more appealing than little Brad!!!

The Big Thaw!

So the snow is finally thawing. It looks strange, as we've had a great blanket of snow in the garden and on the trees etc., and now its all disappearing. The boys have loved watching the snow, being in it - albeit Altai was rolling in it - and so for these Scottish Siberians - they've had a taste of what it might be like in their natural habitat! Timosha found walking in it odd - as having such long 'tufts' on his feet - they were getting all snowy and he took a step, shook a paw, took a step, shook a paw! It may well be a long time before we see such a significant snow fall again - but we can count ourselves fortunate - as there are areas of the UK which have been much more badly affected - and hopefully the thaw will make its way to each and every one of them -

So - we all look forward to things ahead - and 2010 is a new year, and we are looking forward to it with anticipation. Chantaris Cats - the Siberian Alters - will continue to rule the roost - but with Spring will come new challenges - and we look forward to that -

Altai

So Altai was shown as an 'entire' and achieved TICA Quadruple Grand Champion. We neutered him later than planned but after a slight faux pas with him spraying against the washing machine! We decided it was time for him to be neutered.

We brought him out as an alter in August - and reverted all points with TICA to zero. He did so very well, and his first show was August 1st at Ponteland, went to Bracknell 2 weeks later and then to Brigg 2 weeks after that. He made TICA Supreme Grand Champion Alter at the Brigg Show - way to go Altai! We are of course in Isolated status - as we live in Scotland - but even given that - and the fact we require less points - his points total was enough to have Supremed in a non-isolated area.

We are extremely proud of him - and he is continuing his winning ways at shows - and has a really nice 'fan club'!!

We'd like to thank everyone for their kindness and friendship - it means a great deal to us.

TICA Supreme Grand Champion Alter Musrafy Altai - the only Siberian in UK with a 'double' title - with ALL titles through to, and including Quad as Entire, and ALL titles through to, and including Supreme as Alter.

Altai was also awarded TICA EN Regional Best Black/Silver Spotted Siberian - Colour Award 2008/2009 and TICA International Best Black/Silver Spotted Siberian - Colour Award 2008/2009.

Entire Cats are awarded Colour awards - but unfortunately - Alters are not.

After the most wonderful show season - last year - we finally picked up our Awards on Saturday night. The Awards Banquet was great, and a very enjoyable evening. Our gorgeous TICA Supreme Grand Champion Alter Musrafy Kirov now has his Regional Winner plaque which is really beautiful and we would like to thank Europe North Region for this lovely keepsake. For those who don't know - Kirov attained the following during his show career - which he started 21/22 June 2008 and ended in March 2009.

TICA Supreme Grand Champion Alter - 2nd Supreme Grand Champion Alter in the UK - the other (at the time) being Supreme Grand Champion Alexandrite Azazael (Grumpy) - who is also Kirov's half-brother.

Best Siberian Alter - TICA Europe North Region.

17th Best All Breed Alter - TICA Europe North Region.

4th Best Siberian Alter - TICA Worldwide.

His posh name is now RW SGCA Musrafy Kirov!

Our Cat Chalets - we can get outside!!

So - we really wanted to have fresh air - so Mum said that it wasn't a good idea for us to roam free - and so check this out - she got us Cat Chalets and runs - and they are brilliant. We are having the BEST time. We've only been out a few times - you'll see the photo - just installed - and its rained forever since. The draining is still to go in for the pathway - and so its a bit of a mud walk to get there right now - but its SO worth it. We can watch those squirrels and birds so much more closely - and its nice to have the fresh air. We've lots of room - and our units can be split into individual, doubles, triples or we can just have the run of the whole thing - We've got climbers to come - and some outer shelving - Mum says she might put up some Christmas lights - but only if we promise to be good!

We'll keep you updated on our exploits - and let you see the ongoing work!

So what does a Retired Show Cat do now?

So - what does a Retired Show cat do now? Well - Kirov has been thinking about it for ages now - and he's recently come to a huge decision - As you'll see - he's decided that he will now embark upon a career in British Superbikes.

He's been along at Knockhill Racing Circuit having a few practice laps and his intention is that next season - he's going to be racing for the KawaCATI team. I'm sure you'll agree that he looks like he 'belongs' on his bike. The issue of the crash helmet is still under discussion -

Hopefully he'll get some practice in over the winter - and plans on trying the 'skid pan' in an effort to get as professional as possible before the start of the season.

I'm sure you'll all agree - its a dangerous choice - but I'm sure that he'll give it his 'best shot'.

TIMOSHA - THE SHOW CAT

So Timosha had his first Adult Show as an Alter - back at the beginning of August - in Ponteland. So he managed to fathom out that hotel life was - just as he'd remembered it - and enjoyed his two night stay in the Novotel - even though it was a One Day Show.

Thanks to all of the Judges - and to Eduardo Borras - who gave him a Final - and that meant that Timosha became .................... fanfare

Long time - no posts

Hi - its a long time since I've posted. Its been tough having lost Louis - but he's around the house for sure. We've a lot of news - so I need to update the Blog - so bear with me -

Right now - Timosha has decided to take over Louis role of 'tormenting Elja'. He has decided that like Louis - he finds Elja's tail very very tempting. She waves it round and he just has to jump at it. Its quite hilarious - as he's a little tubby - and so he isn't the most delicate of athletes.

Elja is now resigned to the fact that he is her new pursuer - and makes some complaining noises - but being the fantastic girl she is - she just lets him get on with it.

As they say - 'discretion is the better part of valour'.

Our Quiet Home

Well our home is much quieter these days. No Bengal noises - which is very sad. I find myself looking for Louis where he used to lie/sleep, and sometimes I'm sure I see him or hear him.

Elja - our black and white moggy is missing him for sure. He used to torment her with great relish - and she would run and hide - and it would give her her daily exercise. She doesn't have that now - and she really needs to do some - she is getting a little 'tubby'.

We all miss our Louis greatly - but each day there is a comfort in knowing that he is with us here in our garden, enjoying the sunshine which we've had - and which - in life he loved so very much.

Louis is Home

Well, Louis came home yesterday afternoon, and last evening, we buried him in the garden, next to a Lilac tree. He is close to his old friend Viki - who died two years ago - aged 14. He was my moggy boy - and so they are now re-united. Viki has a stone flagstone and a wise owl watching over him. I'm going to choose a flagstone for Louis and a 'watcher' for him.

It was the brightest sunshine this morning - and the sun was shining right on that spot - and I thought - yes, thats where Louis would be right now - lolling in the sunshine. So we've had our conversations today - and I feel calmer now that he is home. Its where he knew, and where he belongs. He can see us, and we can see him - and he seemed so peaceful and comfortable when I saw him. The Royal Dick Vet staff were fantastic, they looked after him so well, both before he left us and after. I can't ever thank them enough.

He was a true star - and now there is an extra one up there in the sky -

For Louis - with love -

Louis the Bengal - 22.01.2002 - 14.07.2009

Louis the Bengal - had a bad reaction to his Annual Booster on Friday July 3 2009. He became ill late on the Sunday - high temperature and very lethargic. He was taken to the Vet Monday July 6 2009 and we began a course of treatment. On Friday July 10 they heard a heart murmur which hadn't been present before - and so hospitalised him and did a heart scan - had the Cardiologist visit. They then did an X-ray. They found a 'mass' in his chest - which had obviously compromised his immune system.

Louis went to the Royal Dick Vet College today - Feline Centre - which is fabulous. Within an hour of my leaving him - he was having an ultrasound and the 'mass' aspirated. It appeared to be Lymphoma.

There was the possibility of Chemo - however, his bone marrow had basically all gone, he had no neurofils left, his red blood cells were at 11.5 and he had no platelets. He had a temperature of 104.9 and was basically - later this afternoon thought to be in septic shock - or bordering on it. Due to the fact he had no platelets, there was a high possibility that with any needle he could have a huge 'bleed'.

Three Professors looked at him, his case notes and thought that whilst Chemo was a possibility - given the condition Louis was in - the fact that he had no defences at all - it would - in all probability - not work - or would turn out badly. They did however, offer the possibility - albeit it couldn't start until tomorrow - because of his veins - and there was a high possibility that he might not actually survive the next 24 hours.

Given everything - and the prognosis - possibly 7 - 9 months if Chemo were successful - and given that he was so compromised his chances of the Chemo being successful were not high - I made the decision to have him put to sleep. It is the hardest thing I've had to do in my life. My 18 year old son is devastated and has wept inconsolably since we had the family discussion. We were all agreed that we must do the right thing for Louis - and give him peace. The College said he was in some discomfort and had given him pain relief - I am sure that we have made the right choice for our boy - and the memories we have of him will last forever. He gave us much joy - and now he will give joy to those who meet him in the next world. He'll be waiting at Rainbow Bridge -

He comes home tomorrow - to be buried under a large tree in the garden - where we can watch him and he can watch over the things he loved - the birds, the squirrels and butterflies.

We're Lazy

So - we've been lazy. Just lolling around - and checking out the wildlife. Today is really horrible, wet and windy - nothing else for it - we'll just sleep - and then later we'll get up - and have a meal - and then probably have a mad session - Then we'll nap, eat some more - and then at 10 p.m., well we always go crazy at that time - its our Fun Time. Mum can set her watch by us!

She says she's going to load up some more photos this week.

Glorious Weather

Well, its Thursday - and another fantastic sunny day. The whole week has been gorgeous - and the cats are enjoying the sunshine. Lolling at the patio doors taking in 'the rays'. What a life - they eat, they sleep, they go to the loo (don't tell anyone - they think thats a secret!), they play.........then they start all over again.

Right now they are watching the squirrels in the garden bouncing round and burying nuts. We have a water dish out on the patio and they come up and have a drink. The cats go NUTS! Squirrels sit there - and its like 'nah, nah - you can't get us'..........its really funny. The patio doors are like a big TV screen for the cats - the squirrels and the varying array of birds - including Thrush, Blackbirds, Starlings, and the usual ensemble. We also have visiting Woodpeckers, a Sparrowhawk and a Peregrine Falcon. I expect we'll see more of the latter two soon - given the number of fledglings which we can hear in all the trees and which will no doubt be making their appearances soon. Thats the worst thing - the predators can grab a fledgling - its sad - but I suppose its nature.

So right now - I've Kirov and Timosha on the Catrix at the patio doors - snoozing, and Altai is 'killing' a large white playmouse. Louis the Bengal is dozing by the Tumble Dryer - which is on (so its nice and cosy) and Elja and Heidi are in the sunshine in my daughters room - basking.

Its a hard life.......................
